"El Chupacabra" by Emilio José González
Composer Emilio González approached Kate in September 2016 to write a piece of short fiction to accompany his original Wind Ensemble piece "El Chupacabra."
He requested a story of a person being chased and attacked by a monster in a South or Central American jungle at night on an 8.5"x11" landscape page that was artistically distressed. Kate drew inspiration from the El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico, the choqui, and cucubano.

The song premiered at Pacific Lutheran University on November 30, 2016 during a performance by the Pacific Lutheran University Wind Ensemble with the story published in the program for the performance.
